Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation delivers big action
Cruise, known for performing his own stunts, returns to the silver screen as agent Ethan Hunt in the fifth installment of the “Mission: Impossible” action films.
Tom Cruise has been teasing audiences about his upcoming projects.
Ethan Hunt may have finally met his match in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation when he faces off against the mysterious syndicate who is causing havoc around the world.
Plus we have Rebecca Ferguson as a mysterious agent, Ilsa Faust, whose agenda we’re not sure of – a great role in an industry that still struggles to give women interesting characters to play in action movies.
You’ve probably guessed that the Mission: Impossible franchise has done well for Tom Cruise, but just how well may surprise you.
Meanwhile Variety reports that Cruise has already confirmed that he is on-board the sixth installment of the “Mission Impossible” movie franchise and that development has already commenced. With less slapstick. Have you seen that bit in the trailer where the two are flying through the air and Ethan asks Benji if he has his seatbelt on? Talking to MTV News at the premiere of Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, he hinted that the property may yet live again. I’ll be honest, “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” may have been one of the most entertaining and wonderful thrill rides I had back in 2011.
Series newcomer Christopher McQuarrie directs a slick if massively overlong film that is supported by the strengths of its leading stars and Cruise in particular proves there’s no limits to his prowess as an action hero. The case features the usual suspects, Jeremy Renner (Avenger’s “Hawkeye”), Simon Pegg (Hot Fuzz, Star Trek), and Ving Rhames.
But even though it may be hard for the media to keep questions about Cruise’s relationships to themselves, there’s plenty to talk about with the latest “Mission: Impossible” movie. One scene, where Cruise actually held his breath for a jaw-dropping six minutes stands out, and there are lots of stunts like that to gawk at throughout the film.
New cast member Rebecca Ferguson absolutely sizzles with sexuality and suppressed emotion and Alec Baldwin is priceless.
