Mourinho: United are in a false position
Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville branded Marouane Fellaini “idiotic” following his late blunder that denied Jose Mourinho’s men a win at Everton on Sunday.
And, despite the draw in the Premier League, their performances have been positive, something which could not be said for Ronald Koeman’s Everton side.
The game began at a very high tempo with the home team really getting into the faces of the United players early on, without managing to create any meaningful chances. “Opposition are leaving the stadium super happy with points they don’t deserve and we are leaving the stadium with a feeling we deserved more”.
“We can fight back, we showed that today”, he said.
“When my team are playing pragmatic football and winning matches and winning titles, you say it is not right and nice”, came his response.
But although Neville sees signs of improvement from United, he said Mourinho will be “devastated that his team have a softness to them and can’t see games out”.
Seemingly coasting to a win that would have taken them to within a point of leaders Chelsea, the Reds came undone as Bournemouth substitute Ryan Fraser led the comeback charge as the hosts sealed a memorable 4-3 victory from 3-1 down.
Tom Cleverley sliced a volley into the arms of De Gea for Everton, while Ibrahimovic blasted a free-kick straight into the wall from 20 yards at the other end.
The 53-year-old had a similar answer for Marcos Rojo’s challenge on Idrissa Gueye in the first half, which many thought should have seen the Argentinian sent off rather than receive a yellow card.
However, Koeman claims it was a tough call for the referee. “It’s hard for the referee. We need to accept it”.
Inside the final 10 minutes a cross by Everton youngster Mason Holgate was met in the middle by Enner Valencia, though the Ecuadorian striker’s header was caught by de Gea. David de Gea’s saved one, I’ve scored one before this game.
United have won just once in the Premier League since defeating champions Leicester City on September 24 – an easy victory at relegation-threatened Swansea City – and they are now languishing in seventh position, one point above West Bromwich Albion. It is a problem that our position in the table is not a reflection of our performances.
