New Amazon Go store is checkout
Shortly after, Amazon will charge a customer’s Amazon account and send a receipt, meaning that, unlike the Apple Store app, shoppers do not even need to be in the store during the actual payment process.
Amazon announced that the first Go store is now in beta test in Seattle, and will be open soon to the public.
The store now stocks ready-made meals and grocery items. “No lines, no checkout, no registers – welcome to Amazon Go”, the Amazon video states.
There are some unanswered questions about Amazon Go, like if non-Amazon Go members can shop there. Customers pick up a product from the shelves and that item is instantly added to a virtual shopping cart. Customers can just grab the items and leave.
It sounds like a shaky concept at first, but only until you see just how advanced the technology really is. The company has installed a system wherein it can track you and your phone as you browse the store to buy your grocery.
As you leave, the sensors at the door identify the items you have picked. Food is said to be made fresh every day by on-site chefs or brought in from Amazon’s “favorite local kitchens and bakeries”. Our selection of grocery essentials ranges from staples like bread and milk to artisan cheeses and locally made chocolates. Amazon AMZN said its customers will find items from well-known brands (but declined to reveal which brands) plus items from artisanal merchants. It also sells Amazon Meal Kits, which include ingredients to cook a meal for two at home in under 30 minutes.
