Olivier Giroud hamstring injury worrying Arsene Wenger
The on-loan Chelsea defender had an impressive afternoon at the heart of the Bournemouth defence, especially with the more experienced players around him struggling at times, and was put in a man-of-the-match display despite three goals being conceded.
Olivier Giroud is the “only worry” for Arsene Wenger, who eased concerns over injuries to Theo Walcott and Mathieu Debuchy. “We had hard games, three in a row, but let’s see how we finish November”.
“He needs to adapt, then we need to find the balance”, Wenger said when asked about Xhaka’s lack of football. I have to speak to medical people, but you can only assess it really after 48 hours. In the first moment, he told me that he felt a twitch in the back of his hamstring and we will see.
While Arsenal might have only managed draws against Tottenham, Manchester United and PSG, they were able to end their Premier League engagements in November, a month they have not performed too well in recent years, with a win. Let’s just give him whatever he wants Wenger! The players questioned themselves after a few draws.
Bournemouth continued to cause problems and were adamant that they should have been awarded a second spot-kick late on as they desperately sought a leveller, but Sanchez broke the visitors’ resolve for good in injury-time with his seventh goal in his past eight games.
“He started very well and was sharp”. They performed quite efficiently as they shielded the back four and tracking their runners without fail on almost every occasion.
Jenkinson is expected to start against Bournemouth in place of the injured Hector Bellerin.
“I imagined that something can happen to [Debuchy]”, Wenger said.
The midfielder, who has thus far scored 12 times and provided 24 assists in 159 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal, also has 34 caps and two goals for England to his name.
“Well, I for one believe that Alexis Sanchez is one of them”. Petr Cech will come back in for David Ospina, whilst Nacho Monreal is set to replace Kieran Gibbs who has very much been on cup duty this season.
“I don’t think there was a desire to hurt Arter”, he added, referring to the tackle which earned Sanchez a caution.
