Wenger pleased with performance in Cherries win
Arsenal stay fourth as a result of the victory, three points adrift of table-toppers Chelsea.
The Gunners beat Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth 3-1 at The Emirates with the help of to two Alexis Sanchez goals.
However, Arsene Wenger’s side-who begin the game six points behind league leaders Chelsea-should welcome the sight of Bournemouth. “That is where the three draws were on our mind”.
The Frenchman’s comeback (and we use that word in the loosest possible sense) lasted just 15 minutes as he limped off early on in the Gunners’ afternoon game against Bournemouth.
Jones gave Bournemouth a penalty in the 23rd minute for Nacho Monreal’s collision with Wilson, who picked himself up to slot home his club’s first ever goal against the Gunners.
“I think at Man United we especially didn’t start at our best and against PSG similarly”.
“It was shoulder to shoulder”. For me it’s not exactly the side I wanted to play.
“Bournemouth are a tricky side who can keep the ball and, if you’re not well organised, you can be in trouble”.
Theo Walcott says Alexis Sanchez has made the position of centre-forward his own at Arsenal this season.
“He finds always the resources to do something special”.
Wenger said it was devastating to see him suffer another setback. “He has the guts”.
“He has that gut conditioning that, when the ball comes to him again, he always finds that extra gear to be unsafe”.
Wenger also revealed that Olivier Giroud may face a spell on the sidelines, after appearing to tweak in hamstring in the final stages of the game. We won’t do that tonight.
“It is something we have got to be aware of because it has happened a couple of times lately”.
“When you see the heart he puts into his job, and the quality of his commitment, and you see how he is now in the dressing room, we are all devastated for him”, Wenger told Sky Sports.
The penalty award to Bournemouth was arguably the right call but it could have been waved away like the move which saw Sanchez hit the deck on the edge of the penalty area earlier in the half.
“We were well in that game, we created a number of chances”.
“We gave them the first goal and got a number of chances we didn’t take, the 3-1 scoreline is hard for us to swallow”.
