WKU Coach Brohm To Take Purdue Job
Brohm has served as the head coach at Western Kentucky for the last three seasons, compiling a 30-10 record.
It’s hoped Brohm, who also has been offensive coordinator at Louisville and UAB and quarterbacks coach at IL under Ron Zook in his career, can have the same impact that Joe Tiller did upon his hiring in 1997.
But there were some anxious moments as rumors surfaced about interest in Brohm from Baylor and Cincinnati.
Brohm has been head coach at Western Kentucky since 2014, going 30-10 and 2-0 in bowl games.
Prominent vacancies at Texas, LSU and Purdue have been filled by some of the most notable up-and-coming names.
Purdue has since announced the hire and will formally introduce Brohm at 3 p.m ET. At the very least, though, Purdue should play a more exciting style of offensive football and should start putting fannies back in Ross-Ade Stadium. You have to take a risk.
But even a stranger can tell that this is a home-run hire for Purdue.
He was promoted to head coach the next season. She goes, ‘The one where you hand it off and toss it back. Their offense has averaged 7.3 yards per play, while running 72.1 plays per game. It’s one that he’s put together by borrowing the very best ideas and concepts from around the game of football.
Speaking of defensive coordinators, that’s the area where Brohm has the most to prove. He spent time as offensive coordinator at both Wyoming and Washington State and crafted a devastating, early version of the spread offense. “Now we’ve got a national championship-caliber coach”.
It wasn’t Les Miles. Gerad Parker assumed command after Hazell was sacked following a 49-35 home loss to Iowa on October 15, but the losses continued.
In theory, it could make sense.
In 2009, he took over as quarterbacks coach at Florida Atlantic in 2009 before spending the next two seasons in the same role at IL. Five of those seasons coming to an end with Purdue ranked somewhere in the top 25 of the Associated Press poll.
Brohm took what was there as a base, and made it better.
Instant success at Purdue probably won’t happen. Levine was the head coach at Houston from 2012-14 and recruited much of the current talent on the Cougars’ squad. But he also might not. He threw 21 interceptions in 12 games.
Purdue athletics director Mike Bobinski said Brohm has been offered a 6-year contract, pending approval of the Purdue Board of Trustees. The images of Drew Brees tell you what Purdue wants to see again, and Jeff Brohm appears to be the ideal coach to deliver that style back to the program.
And Chad Bishop of WBKO-TV reported: “Hearing close to $3 million per year for the now former WKU coach”.
