Death Toll Climbs To 36 In Oakland Warehouse Fire
Thirty-six people have died after a warehouse fire in Oakland, Calif. this weekend, but the search continues for more bodies inside the wreckage.
But they do know that the warehouse was not zoned for residential use, it didn’t have a sprinkler system, a staircase inside the building had been built out of wooden pallets, and there were only two exits – all factors that likely contributed to the high death toll.
They have gone through the building searching the debris, ‘bucket by bucket, ‘ Ms Drayton said. The name of an eighth victim, a 17-year-old boy, was withheld because of his age.
Sergeant Kelly said earlier that the victims were believed to be people in their 20s.
According to THUMP, in a press conference this morning, December 5, Drayton confirmed that the number of known deaths from the Ghost Ship fire has risen to 36. Someone on the roof was looking down noticed that the front side of the building was leaning, so they chose to call it. Firefighters said they feel very strongly they know the point of origin for the warehouse fire. It only had permits as a warehouse, yet code violations show a history of complaints. Flowers, stuffed animals and notes paid tribute to the victims.
Late Sunday, San Francisco’s KGO-TV reached him for comment at a hotel and asked his thoughts on those killed in the fire. They lost a friend in the blaze.
The two deadliest fires came after massive explosions: The September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and the bombing in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995.
“He was able to cast a spell on someone in a weird way that I just do not understand”, Allison said.
The office is working on a list of 220 names of people who were at the party, according to Ahern. One friend says his auto was still at the warehouse. “Hope you’re still here”.
Almena did not immediately respond to a Times request for comment.
No one answered a call to a number for Micah Allison. In August, Bloomberg reported that Oakland highest rental growth and the biggest appreciation in home prices of any of the biggest 50 US cities – due in part to spillover from San Francisco’s blistering real estate market.
“They would come in and they would walk through our space and they’d always say, ‘Wow, what an fantastic space, ‘ ” Almena said. “My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends who have suffered the loss of loved ones”. “What else do I have to say?”
Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf said city officials are putting together a record of what they knew about the property. “All of that has now been proven”.
“Some people were happy to have a roof over their head even though there was no heat or no place to eat or that it was filthy and infested”, Mack said.
“For the tormented queer, the bullied punk, the beaten trans, the spat-upon white trash, the disenfranchised immigrants and young people of color, these spaces are a haven of understanding in a world that doesn’t understand – or can’t, or doesn’t seem to want to try”, Meline writes. “I didn’t think it was going to last this long before it went up or somebody shut it down”. “And then I afterward, I was like, um, no”.
