Final Fantasy XV: 5 Million Copies Shipped on Day One
These reports were confirmed and addressed by game director Hajime Tabata through an official statement, which said: “Unfortunately, there has been an unauthorised distribution of the boxed edition of FINAL FANTASY XV in select regions and we have noticed that gameplay footage from people playing these copies has appeared online”.
But he’s best known in the game industry for being the creative force behind Final Fantasy, having helped create the original and guided the series on through his departure from Square (now Square Enix) in 2003.
The Japanese company will be bringing fans a Final Fantasy XV themed Sony Walkman, as well as a redesigned set of h.ear over-ear headphones and wireless speakers. The two companies have managed to save the most ridiculous and awful – yet somehow still wonderful – piece of cross-promotion for an utterly freakish mashup commercial featuring both products.
The battle against the uber-powered Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda in Final Fantasy XV’s upcoming DLC. To hit everything in the whole franchise, you’re talking something like 60 games depending on how thorough you want to be. “Together, we were able to make something that lives up to the game”. Even a small pack of beasts can serve up a hefty whooping if you don’t Point-Warp around them and slide back in with a Warp-Strike before finishing them off with one of your partner’s techniques. Western RPGs like Mass Effect encourage players to forge their own relationships with digital characters, but Final Fantasy XV’s approach is nearly backwards by design: Noctis shares an unbreakable-and distinct-emotional bond with each member of his party right out of the gate, and the more nuanced aspects of these relationships are illuminated as the story progresses. So, it’s not just a good day for Final Fantasy XV fans but for PS4 fans as well.
In addition to all of this, the Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary Collection will bundle up Final Fantasy I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII and IX on a single disk/card for the PS4 and Vita. It could have been an incredible story but so much content feels cut and the story feels underdeveloped and disjointed as a cohesive experience. Once you have worked out how everything works you will be dying to get into the next fight. Both the player characters and their enemies have existing levels. I could go further into the combat system, but then we’d be here for quite a while…
Of course, every franchise needs to modernize with the changing times, and open world games are certainly the zeitgeist.
