Modric: Clasico draw feels like a win
Ramos’ dramatic late equaliser at the Nou Camp on Saturday earned Real a 1-1 draw from the first Clasico of the season against Barcelona.
In Sunday’s match, it was Ronaldo who had the last laugh though as his side scored late on to rescue a draw in the La Liga tie.
You don’t have to be fluent in Spanish to know what that goal meant to people in Spain – and the brilliant commentary pretty much sums up how every Madrid fan was feeling at the time.
Sergio Ramos once again proved to be the King of late goals after scoring a 90 minute equaliser to deny them all three points at the Camp Nou on Saturday.
“We closed the space between the lines, went ahead from a set-piece, we had the ball, tried to score the second and nearly didn’t even give away a chance against an opponent of that quality”.
“If the game finished in the 89th minute we’d all be happy, but I’m not going to answer hypothetical questions”. “We had worked really well and the scoreline was not being fair on us, and Luka’s great cross mixed things up”.
Real Madrid remain six points clear of defending champions Barca after 14 matches.
“I believe that because of how well we performed throughout the game”. We’ll continue picking up points and see what happens in the next game. “Now we have to rest because we have a match on Wednesday”, Zidane said.
“We got a point and it’s not easy to do that here”.
With this victory, Zinedine Zidane side extends their unbeaten streak in all competitions to an impressive 33 games.
“The leader hasn’t faltered in a long time”, Barcelona coach Luis Enrique said.
“It was a very competitive game – both teams wanted possession in the first half and we maybe had more chances [before half-time]”.
For all the hype it had been a low-quality match, and one which certainly now gives Madrid the edge in this season’s title race.
Late goals have been a habit of the team this season: from Alvaro Morata’s victor against Sporting in the Champions League (90th minute), to Benzema’s in the return game (87th minute), as well as Mateo Kovacic at Legia Warsaw (85th), Morata against Athletic Bilbao (82nd) and Toni Kroos against Celta Vigo (82nd). Barcelona has already secured first place in Group C, which also has Manchester City and Celtic.
They endured a mid-season slump shortly after returning from the Club World Cup, and the European champions will be intent on not letting history repeat itself.
