Al Gore Visits Trump Tower for ‘Extremely Interesting’ Talk With President-Elect
“One of the first meetings that’s coming up here shortly”, Jason Miller said on a conference call, “Ivanka Trump will be meeting with Al Gore at Trump Tower to discuss climate issues”. Hundreds of scientists are telling President-elect Donald Trump in a letter dealing that “Climate Change” is real and needs to be examined.”We urge you to decide if you want your Presidency to be defined by denial and disaster, or acceptance and action”, as stated by a group of environmental scientists.
Gore, who lost the 2000 presidential campaign to Republican George W. Bush, has for years been devoted to lowering carbon emissions blamed for climate change. “It was a honest search for areas of common ground”, Gore told reporters after the meeting at Trump Tower.
On Monday, the former U.S. vice president separately met with Donald and Ivanka at Trump Tower.
In a meeting with The New York Times last month, Trump said there is “some connectivity” related to humans and climate change.
Reacting to Gore’s comments today on “CNN’s Erin Burnett Outfront”, Stein said that “I find it odd, I’m not sure I believe it, I don’t know what’s going on”.
Gore said on MSNBC later on Monday that Ivanka Trump was “very committed to having a climate policy that makes sense”.
Donald Trump also wrote, “While I am not mandated to do this under the law, I feel it is visually important, as president, to in no way have a conflict of interest with my various businesses”. He said he will “do everything I can to work with him and his administration to ensure that our nation remains a leader in the global effort to meet this challenge”. That has been on Ivanka Trump’s radar since July, when she talked about the issue in her speech to the Republican National Committee.
After the meetings, Gore spoke briefly with pool reporters as he exited the elevator at Trump Tower in New York City.
“We’re going to look very carefully”.
Donald Trump’s incoming administration has a stated and demonstrated aversion to addressing climate change in any significant way.
Donald Trump had called climate change a hoax earlier. He said it has been created by and for the Chinese. I have my doubts, but if we have learned one thing from the Trump candidacy, one never knows what will happen next and a major move to combat climate change is certainly possible.
Ivanka has sometimes split with conservative causes, rallying during the election in favor of a plan to support paid maternity leave and child care costs – which became part of Trump’s platform.
