Hundreds protest white nationalist’s speech at Texas A&M
Security personnel intervened to defuse the moment. There are about 60 people on the guest list, which includes white nationalists and people who say they want to peacefully challenge the speaker.
“You come here and you don’t belong here, you’re gonna catch hell”, one student told the white nationalists.
Outside the banquet hall, thousands of protesters made their presence known throughout campus.
Josh Wilkinson, 40, works for the university libraries and came out to denounce Spencer and his views. Police said two people were arrested. He said he had no problem with “black people being proud to be black or Hispanic people being proud to be brown”.
‘Why would I want to see America become less white?’
Others who don’t support Spencer’s message expressed support of his First Amendment rights.
Wiginton shamefully refused to think of himself as a neo-Nazi or white supremacist but rather someone who’s being “marginalized” despite holding the false and monstrous view that being white comes with a high IQ.
When she passed in front of the stage, Spencer said, “She’s dancing”.
“Just the fact that Trump said, ‘Great. It’s a people and a blood and a place on the map”.
After white nationalist Richard Spencer left him speechless by equating Zionism and white supremacy, Texas A&M Rabbi Matt Rosenberg is acknowledging that it wasn’t his best moment. During the presidential election campaign, the Alt-Right rose to greater prominence and the mainstream media started looking into Spencer and his Alt-Right ideas. “Hail victory!” Spencer could be heard saying in footage of the event recorded by The Atlantic.
“What I see is that Donald Trump is a kind of arrow”, Spencer said Tuesday.
He told CNN: “I think [the US] was at one time a [white nation]”.
There was a tense moment in the middle of his speech. Outside of the student center dozens of students gathered to sing songs, chant, play instruments, and wave signs of disapproval of Spencer.
“Follow your leader”, it read.
Once Spencer’s speech concluded, barricades were placed between the protesters, who had been moved outside, and the speech attendees. The movement focuses on white nationalism and preserving the white race.
Fortunately, this risky white supremacist rhetoric will not go unchallenged. “I hate it in all its forms”. An alternative event will be held on campus while Spencer is speaking.
Spencer did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment. “The word racist is a fake word”. There was at least one physical confrontation when the microphone was taken from a woman who repeatedly asked if Spencer was a racist.
Amy Smith, senior vice president of the university’s marketing and communications department, said she was not aware of any incidents where campus police physically attacked students.
Rather, it allows private citizens to reserve space at the public university, but they must pay rental expenses.
In a press statement, Texas A&M describes the event as “an opportunity to stand together in unwavering conviction that Aggies are strongest when united”.
“I think we freely let too many of anybody into America”.
Texas A&M organized an event to run at the same time as Spencer’s appearance. “We are all here for a reason”, Faa said.
If the scene at College Station on Tuesday night is any indication, those trying to bridge the gap are in the minority.
The school’s student newspaper “The Battalion” reports they will be met by counter-protesters supportive of Spencer. They do not want you to have duties to your people.
