Earl Thomas ruled out for Seahawks
It should come as no surprise at this point.
“Every year brings up new obstacles”, Wilson said. This was game 11 for us, I think this was the first time we really felt like that.
Game on! The Seattle Seahawks and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are facing off today at 4:05pm ET for some post-Thanksgiving football, and the stakes are high.
The Buccaneers were led by receiver Mike Evans, who finished with eight catches for 104 yards and both of the game’s touchdowns.
And the Seahawks’ momentum from a three-game winning streak got sacked, too.
As Jermaine Kearse snared an 18-yard pass to convert a fourth-and-14 from the Seahawks own 16 with 3:21 left, and then Jimmy Graham caught another for 16, Carroll began to think maybe the Seahawks really could escape with what might have been one of their more unfathomable wins in his seven-year history with the team. “Oh, man, can’t have six sacks”.
“A bad outing. But we’re going to get right this week”. And now this dismal snoozer by Seattle. But the Seahawks also played plenty of zones, and it appeared that at least four of Evans’ six first-half receptions came in zone. The Seahawks are expected to be without Thomas and Shead. Britt sprained his ankle last week against Philadelphia and was unable to practice all week. “It’s a very unusual throw to make, with all the momentum he had going to his left and to flick it back in”, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said. This was not one of those weeks, which may say as much about the resurgent Buccaneers as it does about Seattle.
They’re the ones who change blocking assignments when things look ominous and obviously, they’re responsible for a clean snap to the quarterback.
On the play, Bucs tight end Luke Stocker grabbed Seahawks linebacker Frank Clark right outside of the end zone. If he makes that play the Seahawks get off the field, the game is still scoreless when they get their first crack on offense, and it becomes a completely different game. The pressure seemed to affect Wilson, who misfired on several passes downfield including what could have been a couple long plays to Tyler Lockett. Wilson did manage to top his season total entering the game with 80 rushing yards, but they did not come under good circumstances.
Sowell indicated following the game in which Seattle allowed Russell Wilson to get sacked six times the plan had been to alternate him and Gilliam nearly by series. “More than anything, it was a matter of depth with them out”. Is the absence of Marshawn Lynch this devastating?
My gut tells me the loss was a blip. The Dallas Cowboys may have the best record in the NFC, but Seattle, not the Cowboys, appeared to be the most complete and risky team in the conference. This wasn’t the Los Angeles Rams or Arizona Cardinals defense. They were missing some key people. It was just Tampa Bay.
The good news for them is having a pass rush or any kind of defense isn’t part and parcel to being a contender this season.
The Seahawks still have plenty of breathing room in the NFC West and will likely win the division. And they well may have Prosise back for those games.
What has to be concerning is the Seahawks numbers occurred against a Tampa Bay defense that came into the game ranked 26th in the 32-team National Football League in total defense and 24th in points allowed.
