Conor McGregor says boxing license has Floyd Mayweather running scared
“So I looked at it, and I said, well, it makes sense to make Aldo the champion and then have Holloway and Pettis fight for the interim title, and when Jose’s ready, barring any insane injuries, the victor can fight him”, he went on to add.
The UFC chose to make Jose Aldo featherweight champion, with Max Holloway taking on Anthony Pettis at UFC 206 in Toronto for an interim title and the right to take on Aldo. Naturally, this drew questions about whether McGregor voluntarily vacated the title or the UFC pulled a power play on its most popular fighter.
McGregor has never been taken down in his entire UFC career with only one lost via submission against Nate Diaz in March.
Mayweather’s team have already said McGregor would be slapped around by their fighter, but the Irishman explained this was all the boxing legend’s idea to begin with. Both McGregor and Mayweather have kept the possibility in the news, though, sniping at each other on TMZ and the like.
This is one of several big hold-ups in a potential Mayweather-McGregor bout.
“I have nothing against Alvarez”. “I’d go in there to knock him out”.
“Out of interest when he’s posted a video of himself sparring I’ve watched it, and to me technically it’s not top level, it’s not up to scratch”. He can say whatever he wants.
Recently this summer, Mayweather Jr. made a bluff about him and Mcgregor in a boxing match.
“Well that’s my territory, my weight and my belts and titles he would be after, so his manager Attar has said have the right people call, I am the right person and I’m calling”.
“But that’s okay, I’ll leave them scrambling”.
“McGregor knows why he’s a victor and knows why he believes that”. I see articles, I see stuff online, but I don’t see the belt not in my presence. “I’m not like, “I’m going to win by pumping myself up”. Though Mayweather or his handler have not commented on this, fans think something fishy is going on. I see it, I know what I’m looking at.
“I would not go in there just to show up”.
So, are they finally fighting? Unfortunately, a discord came in not too long after with the Irish man coming out insisting that he still holds two belts, one for the Lightweight division, which he got just a couple of weeks ago and then another for the Featherweight class. “I don’t have that”. Let’s talk. I want ownership now. It’s not a good thing, and it’s not a bad thing. “He’s a strong fighter, and when I look at his fights, he’s a little faster than I thought he was”.
