Rouhani Warns Trump Not to Rip up Iran Deal
“He wants to do many things”, Iran’s president, Hassan Rouhani, said of Trump in a speech.
Members of the committee, headed by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, took part in a Wednesday session, during which they described as unjustified the United States behavior regarding its commitments under the nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani presents to the parliament his budget for 2017-2018, on December 4, 2016, in Tehran.
Rouhandi disagreed. “At one point, we were only able to sell 970,000 to one million barrels of oil per day, but now it has reached the level of 2,300,000 barrels per day”, Rouhani said.
Last month, the watchdog told members that Iran’s heavy water stock had exceeded the 130-tonne-mark set out in the nuclear accord by 100 kilograms. The president-elect has also called the agreement “terrible” and “the stupidest deal of all time”, and Vice President-elect Mike Pence has vowed the deal would be “ripped up”.
However, the US Congress voted recently in favor of extending the US president’s authority to potentially impose sanctions on US entities that do business with Iran. Rouhani did not mention Trump by name, referring to him only as “some man … elected in the U.S”.
Iran, Netanyahu went on to note, “has actually become an even more aggressive power” following the signing of the nuclear deal.
For his part, Moniz said that President Barack Obama will be informed of Iran’s concerns, adding that the USA administration will be committed to the Iran nuclear deal.
Engel explained he was not a supporter of the agreement, but once the deal was passed, and Iran needs to live up to its obligations on the deal.
Rouhani said that on Wednesday, he will attend the meeting of an experts committee to decide on Iran’s reaction to what he called the USA violation.
Meanwhile, Iran is warning President Obama not to sign an extension of sanctions, saying the bill is a violation of the landmark agreement. “The incoming Trump Administration and the new Congress have much work they can do together to continue to hold Tehran accountable”. “If this measure is actually implemented, then it would be a clear breach of the nuclear agreement and will cause us to react very harshly and severely”.
However, Rouhani said Iran still needed to meet its target of eight percent growth over the next five years as it seeks to rebuild an economy ravaged by global sanctions and domestic mismanagement.
