Here is why Amma’s body is Being Buried & Not Cremated !
She not only regulated Jaya’s interactions with partymen and other visitors but also ruthlessly cut the late chief minister off from her only relatives – Deepak and Deepa, the son and daughter of her late brother Jayakumar.
The central government too announced a day of mourning. Senior BJP leader and Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said Jayalalithaa’s death was an “irreparable loss” to Tamil Nadu.
– Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his respects to J. Jayalalithaa on Tuesday afternoon, flying to Rajaji Hall in a chopper from the Chennai airport.
The Mentor of Jayalalithaa was also buried on the Marina beach, as Amma lived following the footsteps of MGR and the fans and followers believe they can still hear the sound of MGR’s watch ticking and chose to Burry Amma in the Marina Beach.
The Tamil minority in Sri Lanka favoured Jayalalithaa for her ability to pressure New Delhi to nudge Sri Lankan political leadership to grant concessions to Tamils.
Her body was shifted from Rajaji Hall, where it was kept for the public to pay their last respects, to an Army truck decked with over two tonne of flowers, and made its way to the MGR Memorial. She also contributed immensely to Tamil, Telugu and Kannada film industries, he noted. Many top political leaders attended the funeral amid heavy security, with thousands of policemen posted.
J. Jayalalithaa became Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the first time in 1991 and governed the state across four terms.
The state funeral included a guard of honour at the beach, where the 68-year-old politician was laid to rest next to MG Ramachandran.
She herself was known for leading an extravagant lifestyle.
“Her dynamism and far-sightedness drew industry and investment to the State”. She also liberally issued inflammatory statements against the government in Colombo. “Her demise has left a huge void in Indian politics”, Modi wrote on Twitter. She regained her office past year after a corruption case against her was overturned by a court.
The Cabinet expresses profound sorrow at the sad demise of Jayalalithaa.
Jayalalithaa was barred from standing as a candidate in the 2001 elections as she had been found guilty of criminal offences, including allegedly obtaining state property.
