Although Coachella debuted six years earlier, in many ways, Lollapalooza became the model for so numerous festivals to follow. What gives? Finally, after an opening salvo of “I Love You, Honeybear”, “Strange Encounter”, and “True Affection”-which all sounded fantastic-Tillman finally spoke”.
But last night was extra special because he headlined a big one in his hometown of Chicago: Lollapalooza.
Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes brought the crowd to their feet with her soulful rendition of “Hang Loose”.
Likewise, one fan could be overheard saying, “Holy s–, that is mad”, as they walked by the flashing red lights and billowy smoke coming from Perry’s stage (named for Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell) as Kaskade worked the crowd with a healthy mix of heavy beats and lush, atmospheric female vocals. The popular EDM DJ returns to Miami to play Bayfront Park on October 16.
Paul McCartney ended the Lollapalooza festivities Friday night with a literal bang. Midway through his multi-song encore, Sir Paul welcomed Alabama Shakes frontwoman Brittany Howard to the stage for a performance of The Beatles’ “Get Back”. His performance featured pyrotechnics and fireworks during “Live and Let Die”.
