Jets Embarrassed by Colts, Turn to Petty for Last 4 Games
That’s on a night when the Colts defense was quite formidable against the Jets offense, with other members of the defensive line – Zach Kerr, David Parry among them – finding ways to make an impact. In fact, entering this week, the Colts had one win by more than one score since the 2014 season – that’s a span of 27 games with only one win by more than one score. Below are a couple other notable disappointing moments during the Jets’ 2016 season. If the front office believes that there’s enough talent to get this team back in contention immediately, then Romo is the guy and the Jets should follow it up by drafting a QB in one of the middle rounds. But Bowles said he’s not about to change anything.
The Jets will look to correct their mistakes as they prepare to face the 49ers, losers of 11 in a row, Sunday in San Francisco. We’re going to try to build off this momentum. I long for the good old days when the Jets would go 4-12. “It can be anyone’s night on any given night.’ Tonight just so happened to be my night”.
When asked if Johnson was upset, Bowles said, “Everybody in the building’s upset”.
The New York Jets have always been in the middle of what can only be called a season to forget. To Bowles, though, that effort looked just fine. Afterward, Bowles harshly criticized his team, he even questioned their effort in an embarrassing defeat. “I’ll talk to him [Wednesday]”. He was a fourth-round draft pick of the Jets in 2010 and played three seasons for NY. He played 106 straight games before missing Seattle’s loss at Tampa Bay last week with a hamstring injury. Who would’ve ever thought I would be where I am now? “It’s been the same for me. Winning is still the ultimate metric in this game, in this sport, and we have to keep doing that”. “This was a game we had to get for next week”.
There are signs however, that the stress is getting to Bowles.
Life in the National Football League is in no way easy, particularly for head coaches, who carry the burden any time their team fails to show up.
“Not unless Bryce gets hurt”, Bowles said. Bowles thinks he “probably could have” handled the situation better. They will have to get pressure on Ryan Fitzpatrick who has thrown 13 interceptions this year. “Like I said when I signed the contract, I know what my job status is and I don’t worry about that”. It kind of went over the wrong way, definitely.
There’s been a lot of that for the Jets this season. On the offensive side of the ball, quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was just 5-for-12 with 81 yards and an interception before the Jets turned to Bryce Petty, who was 11-for-25 passing with 135 yards and a touchdown.
All of that being said, the Colts played by far their best game of the season last night, and have been on a quiet mini-roll in the back half of this season. Nick Mangold re-aggravated his sprained ankle and coach Todd Bowles said it’s possible that the seven-time Pro Bowler could be done for the season.
The Jets waived running back/kick returner C.J. Spiller and wide receiver/kick returner Jeremy Ross on Tuesday, a day after the loss to Indianapolis.
“For the first time this year, we got our (butt) handed to us”, said Todd Bowles.
