Dallas Cowboys can clinch NFC East with win over Giants
If not for a mental mistake by one of their players in the season opener, the Dallas Cowboys could be chasing the second 16-0 regular season in National Football League history down the stretch.
The Dallas Cowboys can clinch the NFC East and extend their winning streak to 12 games when they take on the New York Giants on Sunday night at MetLife Stadium. But at the same time, the Giants aren’t the same either.
Elliott has tallied seven touchdowns and 5.11 yards per carry in the Cowboys’ six road games in 2016.
There are no other teams in the NFC that can win 13 games, so get to 13 and the NFC championship will go through Arlington.
Director of mental conditioning Dr. Jonathan Faber illustrated a tale of two tigers for the team.
Ezekiel Elliott carries the ball against New York Giants at AT&T Stadium on September 11, 2016 in Arlington, Texas. If the G-Men are without Jason Pierre-Paul, the task of stopping Elliott becomes even harder. All-time leading rusher and former Cowboy, Emmitt Smith has nothing but good things to say about Elliot. Since then, both have blossomed in the offense now led by rookie quarterback Dak Prescott. It will be strength vs. strength in this department.
Perhaps the Cowboys are still lamenting their opening day 20-19 loss to the New York Giants, otherwise the team would have a flawless record.
The Cowboys considered those numbers a product of the game plan, and one of Prescott’s strengths has been letting the defense dictate where his throws go.
This time, the question figures to come up much earlier. But Jones has been resilient in combating the relentless criticism, and he has the Cowboys positioned to make a deep playoff run this season. Only New England, Detroit and Buffalo have fewer with eight apiece. “We get up in games, it’s not, ‘Let’s coast this game out and finish this win.’ It’s, ‘Keep the pedal on the metal and get things done'”.
Priefer’s only critical decision turned out well, a challenge late in the fourth quarter that resulted in a first down being overturned for Dallas when replays showed Prescott’s slide began before the marker. He caught nine passes and converted key third downs, while providing a security blanket for the young quarterback. If this were a franchise that everybody just wanted to see make the playoffs, it’d be all good news, but that’s never been the case for the Cowboys. He thinks Prescott has much better command of the offense.
The Cowboys are doing it again with the league’s best average time of possession at 32:20, setting the tone and wearing out opposing defenses while keeping opposing offenses on the sideline. David Johnson ran circles around them and that really allowed the Cardinals passing attack to open up the game.
A season after going 4-12, the Cowboys are 11-1 and assured of at least a wild-card berth.
The 8-4 Giants have grand ambitions as well.
