Rain, snow expected in the Wyoming Valley through Thursday night
“A brisk northwest flow of cold air will be with us through Saturday”, the NWS says.
Carlie Buccola, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service, said the chance of snow will begin on Sunday night and will continue into Monday morning.
The winter storm is now centered over the northwest, lighting up the National Weather Service watch and warning display with everything from winter storm warnings, winter weather advisories, high wind advisories, and even ice storm warnings. Travel will be impacted as roads become covered with snow and ice, according to the weather service. Rain is expected to stop by Wednesday morning, but skies will remain cloudy, and wind speeds are expected to exceed 15 miles per hour throughout rest of the week.
Today’s forecast calls for a slight chance of snow showers. “The heavier snow totals will be along Highway 30 and to the north where 8-12” are possible.Expect snow to quickly accumulate given that we have not been able to get above freezing the past several days.
City parkers didn’t do very well last weekend when Madison got 5.7 inches of snow on Sunday.
Forecasters expect snow beginning in the mid- to late-morning and continuing for much of the day in inland areas.
More snow showers and additional at least light accumulations are likely on Monday. Increasing strength of cold air aloft could also drive the storm track slightly further south keeping any above freezing temperatures offshore.and keeping the precipitation all snow. The weather will transition to rain by mid-morning Thursday.
Snow flurries are possible Monday with a high near 21 degrees.
The first system will bring snow later Saturday into early Sunday.
On Sunday, there will be a 40% chance of snow after 4 p.m.
The low on Thursday was 14, 4 degrees below normal and 30 degrees above the record low of 16 below for the day, set in 1876.
