Donald Trump Against Vote Recounts; Hillary Clinton Still Leading the Popular Vote
Even after Clinton conceded and the Obama administration gave a clean bill of health to the presidential election, Elias announced that the Clinton campaign will participate in a recount.
CBS News reported Stein has raised $500,000 for the Pennsylvania recount efforts. The lawsuit states voters are asking for the recount out of fears “about the integrity of electronic voting machines used in their districts”. But it is a big story, because it provoked a response from President-elect Donald Trump.
Stein won no states and wouldn’t directly or immediately benefit from a recount – nor would she likely be able to topple Trump.
“The technology is very uneven from state to state and sometimes within the states”.
But Stein’s effort could help her in other ways.
Why did Stein have to raise money for the recount? She also can try to influence policy by urging those donors to call lawmakers or contribute to other politicians. She said that her campaign would have “jump through some hoops”.
– In the 2008 race for U.S. Senate in Minnesota, Democrat Al Franken defeated Republican incumbent Norm Coleman, who was ahead by 215 votes before the recount.
According to Stein’s website, she intends to raise seven million US dollars for recount costs, and any surplus will be used to “promote voting system reform”.
Candidate-initiated: Unlike in Wisconsin, candidates for office in Pennsylvania can’t just file for a recount.
In addition, the Commission approved a motion to direct staff to provide the estimated recount fee, including any valid State costs, to the petitioning candidates on Monday, November 28, 2016, for payment due at the close of business on Tuesday, November 29, 2016.
Should those local recounts happen and uncover any voting irregularities or evidence of voter fraud, Stein’s campaign’s statewide petition is a step toward a recount of all 5.8 million Pennsylvania votes in the presidential election. He further added about the discrepancies of votes in Wisconsin; the reason why Green Party filed for a recount last Friday.
“The Clinton campaign is not behind this, they haven’t supported it, but they want to know whats’ going on”, Grueskin said. Interest groups, bloggers and others across the political spectrum keep anecdotal lists of instances of election fraud, he said, but “when each side is forced to come up with factual examples where that has happened, where they have to name names. nearly always the allegations go away”.
