Ben Roethlisberger praises Steelers defense in win over Giants

On Sunday Evening, the Pittsburgh Steelers ended the New York Giants 6-game winning streak 24-14.

The Steelers weren’t able to substitute much on defense because of the Giants’ reliance on the no-huddle offense, but the defense was still able to present different looks to quarterback Eli manning and Beckham.

Brown is quickly becoming one of the best wide receivers in the National Football League over the last five years.

“It’s one of those plays that’s kind of like a broken play and you step up and scramble”.

NY still has the best record in the race for the wild-card spot, but Tampa Bay (7-5), Washington (6-5-1), Minnesota (6-6) and Green Bay (6-6) are close with four games left. Asked when Beckham is at his most unsafe, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin responded “whenever they snap the ball”. After that, he said, “it’s (the offense’s lack of) consistency”. “We need to get him involved”.

“We had a call in and it wasn’t really a blitz”, said linebacker Arthur Moats, top man on the rockslide.

“I went up and asked him what was going on, what was the flag, and he said, ‘Get out (of) my face, ‘” Beckham said. “We need to help our defense out”. Starting kicker Chris Boswell, who injured his abdomen late in the practice week, warmed up before the game but was deactivated. Manning’s quarterback rating of 69.9 says it all, and both interceptions he threw were a result of poor passes. An uncharacteristic fumble by Le’Veon Bell and an interception by Ben Roethlisberger could’ve swung the momentum in the wrong direction but Timmons and the defense wouldn’t let that happen. Roethlisberger and Manning are inextricably linked.

Granted, Pittsburgh can be explosive offensively but the additions the Giants made to their defense this offseason are paying dividends and they’ll keep the team in the game today. For the second time this season, he went through a game without a single catch – he also was blanked in Green Bay. It marked the first time in his bright, young career that the feature back topped 100 or more yards rushing in three consecutive games.

In addition to Dallas, the Giants also have games with Detroit (8-4), Philadelphia (5-7) and Washington.

Ed: I was a little surprised to see the Steelers as a TD favorite over the Giants, but I think that will be the gap in this game.

In the last six games, the Giants are averaging 290.6 yards and 21.5 points.

NOTES: Steelers S Shamarko Thomas and NT Javon Hargrave both left with concussions.

Maybe this was another fluke that Ben McAdoo and Manning will easily explain away.

Right now, even if the Giants do make the playoffs, they will have a quick first-round exit. In the first half, he would go 17 for 24 with 204 yards and throw for a touchdown.

While McAdoo expressed sympathy with Beckham’s plight, Eli Manning had a different take on the situation and suggested during his weekly appearance on WFAN that the receiver “has to be careful of that”. After a couple of first downs, Roethlisberger found wide receiver Coby Hamilton for 12 yards to get the Steelers into Giants territory.
