Penn State, Wisconsin focused on title game, not playoff

It will be a terrific game, a tremendous challenge for a young Penn State team looking to cap off a magical season in the best way possible.

Despite the conference championship, there is no guarantee Penn State will make the playoff.

Penn State is likely off to Pasadena for the fourth time in school history and is seeking to reach.500 in college football’s longest running postseason game.

The victor of the Big Ten title game has made the four-team playoff in each of the first two years of the new system.

That did not stop Penn State coach James Franklin from making his case. Penn State was down 28-7 at one point in the ballgame. But as the game wore on and Wisconsin’s stellar front seven found it more hard to pressure McSorley, Wisconsin’s weaker defensive secondary was exposed. I am going to say no.

It was certainly a moment worth savoring.

McSorley finished 22 of 31 for 384 yards and was named the game’s MVP. Barkley and Clement finished the regular season second and third in the Big Ten, respectively, in total rushing yards behind only Northwestern’s Justin Jackson. That’s a tall order against this Wisconsin squad, however, which could put the onus on McSorley.

Blacknall ended the night with six catches for 115 yards and two touchdowns while DaeSean Hamilton had eight grabs for 118. Junior Chris Godwin is the Nittany Lion’s leading receiver with 47 receptions for 762 yards and nine touchdowns.

They rewarded a team who played Rutgers, Idaho, and Portland State. Do they deserve to be playing in the Big Ten Championship Game? Considering that they didn’t have their three starting linebackers for that game, and lost another backup with a bogus targeting call, that’s a fair assessment for their defense, but how about the offensive side of the ball?
