Westbrook, Stoops take top honors on AP All-Big 12 team

Oklahoma teammates Baker Mayfield and Dede Westbrook were both named Heisman Trophy finalists on Monday night.

This year’s list of Heisman Trophy finalists is 40 percent Oklahoma Sooner.

Baker Mayfield is the only player in Oklahoma history throw for 5,000 yards and rush for 500 yards in the same season. Bob Stoops received coach of the year honors. Unlike past year, Mayfield ended the day with an invitation to the Heisman Trophy ceremony in NY. “Like always, I always get the jitters regardless if it’s just a simple question, I’m nervous”, Westbrook said.

But Mayfield has vocally endorsed his top target, Westbrook, to receive a Heisman vote instead of himself. The field goal was set up by a 67-yard Mayfield to Dimitri Flowers hook up. “I still want to hold Dede’s hand all the way to NY”.

JAMES WASHINGTON: Amid the hype around Westbrook around the state of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State’s James Washington has put together an impressive season, too.

“I’m very humbled by the experience and the journey that I’m on”, Westbrook said. Then he’ll have to figure out how the Longhorns could have a 2,000-yard rusher, a 3,000-yard passer in a freshman quarterback and a defense that improved in Big 12 play – yet still go 5-7.

“My goal is to win a national title”, Mayfield said.

Mixon was a second-team choice as the all-purpose player.

Thanks to Mixon’s clutch score and Mayfield’s poise in the pocket, the Sooners should be destined for a potential Sugar Bowl date with the Auburn Tigers.
