Alabama-Washington and Ohio State-Clemson
We sat in there as a team and listen to all the points that were being made and I think you can makes arguments for and against so many different teams. “Obviously he had a great year as a redshirt freshman”.
Despite graduations and early departures to the National Football League, the Buckeyes collected four wins against top 10 teams, including Oklahoma, Nebraska, Wisconsin and MI, with the victory over the Sooners coming on the road and in just the third game of the regular season.
“We were clearly one of the better teams in America”, junior defensive lineman Tyquan Lewis said. Heck, they may even be able to give the worst team in the National Football League a run for their money.
Who: No. 1 Alabama vs. But, at the same time, it reminds the fact that Washington Huskies should strengthen their defense before going to the playoff. “I’m glad we’re one of them”.
I don’t care that Clemson won the ACC, Penn State won the toughest conference in football. I feel that if you do not play in a conference championship in one of the power 5 conferences then you should be considered for a playoff.
Anyway, the College Football Playoff rankings are out and the Buckeyes are in. Their demolishing of Colorado on Friday night makes a strong case. Washington is likely headed to the playoff, while the Buffs will go to the Rose Bowl if, and only if, they do not slip below USC in the rankings. He is also the first offensive player to take home All-America honors since Allen Robinson (first team) and John Urschel (third team) in 2013.
If there is a pattern to be found in the committee’s work over three years it may be this simple: For the most part, the teams are ranked by the number in the loss column.
But what if college football expanded to a 16-team bracket?
Clemson (12-1) won the Atlantic Coast Conference championship by beating Virginia Tech 42-35, making it a lot more exciting than Tigers fans probably hoped.
OH (8-5) never led and didn’t do much on offense until the final quarter, but the Bobcats still came achingly close to their first MAC championship since 1968.
It’s the best of both worlds, there’s still a committee, and championships aren’t completely pointless like they are now. I want to see an eight-team tournament as much as anyone and I believe it would add to the excitement (unlike a litany of meaningless bowl games), but let’s say the eight-team format were instituted this season. Are they top 8? Yes!
Would expanding the playoff help eliminate this problem? 3 Michigan. The Nittany Lions rallied from 21 points down to beat No. 5 Wisconsin in the Big Ten championship.
The Big Ten looked to have a real shot at becoming the first conference to land multiple teams in a single Playoff.
Did the committee get it right? Weaker schedule or not, Washington deserves its chance to win it all.
