Amma’s Last Journey: Jayalalithaa Buried with Full State Honours
Jayalalithaa, a spinster, breathed her last at the Apollo Hospitals just before midnight, over 24 hours after she suffered a cardiac arrest.
She was honoured with Kalaimamani award by the Tamil Nadu Government in 1972.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was “deeply saddened” by Jayalalithaa’s death.
Jayalalithaa’s relatives as well as AIADMK MLAs and MPs were at the Rajaji Hall. Emotional scenes were witnessed as several women were seen wailing and thumping their chests. She was an essential part of the state. Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu also extended his condolences saying it is big loss to the country.
Dr Beale admitted that Jayalalithaa always ran the risk of further medical complications in spite of the progress she had made. She had flawless control over her emotions.

Jayalalithaa had already been in the hospital for two months since September 22, when she was admitted with a fever, dehydration and a respiratory infection.
The supporters at one point broke barricades in front of the hospital.
“The people are very depressed. Her demise has left a vacuum in public life which can not be filled”, he said.
“On many occasions I had interactions with her on all subjects concerning development and administration”. Their numbers have swelled since her condition worsened on Sunday.
Earlier yesterday evening, after local TV channels wrongly declared her dead, a brief riot and scuffles between supporters and police were reported outside the hospital.
She was buried next to her political mentor MG Ramachandran at Marina Beach. Violent protests had broken out in the region and 16 people had reportedly committed suicide to protest her imprisonment. Thousands of directors, actors and producers in the successful Tamil language film industry went on hunger strike to demand her release.
