“Wayne Rooney Is The Perfect Player” – Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Zlatan Ibrahimovic says Manchester United team-mate Wayne Rooney is “the flawless player” and deserves more respect, after the England captain broke the club’s European goalscoring record in a 4-0 win over Feyenoord.
Wayne Rooney became Manchester United’s all-time leading scorer in Europe as Jose Mourinho’s side defeated Feyenoord 4-0 to move to the brink of qualifying for the Europa League’s last 32.
Of United’s attacking outlets it was Mkhitaryan, with his purposeful runs and excellent close control, who was impressing the most and the Armenian fired into the side netting following a give-and-go with Ibrahimovic. Despite having won more than 20 trophies in the last decade, he has never managed to stay at the club for more than three years.
It was United who started the stronger as Paul Pogba and Michael Carrick went close in the early stages, but it was another former Liverpool man who almost gave Feyenoord the lead after 26 minutes. (On Thursday) we were winning 1-0 and missing chances, and then we lost the ball in midfield and they got a direct free-kick, I thought it would be 1-1.
The match will take place at Old Trafford. “Let us qualify and let us try to win it”.
United and England captain Rooney has dominated the headlines since pictures emerged showing him, complete in Three Lions training kit, looking the worse for wear during the worldwide break.
He, however, denied that allegation and hit out at the media. I didn’t set foot in the wedding and I think it’s a shame I have to be talking about it now after such a great victory.
“I think for the next one-and-half years, he is going to do not just what he wants to because he is happy, he is committed and loving his career at Man United”, Mourinho said.
“You wanted to see Mkhitaryan, I wanted to see him too”. “A big club with a big history obviously mean people want big results”. I’m used to it from Sweden, I don’t mind it.
Speaking at a news conference on Wednesday at Carrington, Ibrahimovic said: “There is big pressure on him because people expect magic in a short time instead of being realistic”.
And on the possibility of progressing further in the Europa League, Ibrahimovic concluded: “If we can win it, it would be fantastic”.
Owen said on BT Sport: “He’s definitely a stop-gap striker, isn’t he?”
Manchester United are now nine points behind leaders Chelsea in the Premier League heading into this weekend’s round of fixtures.
Jose Mourinho is understood to have prioritised defensive deals in January. Subs: Lingard 7, Memphis 6, Rashford 6. Wayne Rooney: probably saw him as a No 10. So (Zlatan) is a stopgap.
Fiorentina lost 3-2 to Greek side PAOK at home but remained with a three-point lead in Group J, while Zenit St. Petersburg maintained a ideal record after a 2-0 home win against Maccabi Tel Aviv in Group D. Zenit has a 10-point lead at the top.
His former teammate Paul Scholes agreed, adding: “He’s an athlete and a fit lad”. You see how creative they are and pass the ball to each other and create a lot of chances.
