PM Modi Leaves for Chennai to Pay Homage to Jayalalithaa
The funeral scheduled to be held at Marnia beach in Tamil Nadu at 4:30 pm, is expected to be attended by several Chief Ministers and political leaders.

A 7-day state mourning is being observed in Tamil Nadu. Schools were shut and thousands of police deployed to prevent any untoward incidents. There were loud cries of “Amma, Amma”.
The government has also chose to accord a state funeral to the departed leader which will take place at 4.30 p.m.in Chennai.
At this time of grief, our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Tamil Nadu.
Jayalalithaa’s life has been under constant limelight. An actor turned politician, mentored by MG Ramachandran (MGR), she remained an enigma to many and Amma to the masses. ‘Every possible clinical attempt was made to sustain her revival.
“She was showered with enormous love, affection and support by the people of Tamil Nadu which very few leaders get”.
She was widely referred as “Amma” by the people of Tamil Nadu. She accepted a salary of Re1. She was a successful actress and a very successful politician too.
“Entire nation believes that we lost a dynamic, courageous bold administrator and an excellent public leader who had won hearts of the people”, he said.
It also announced Rs 50,000 for a party functionary who allegedly attempted self-immolation and a similar amount to another person who cut his finger off following Jayalalithaas’s demise on Dec 5.
Even at that time, Panneerselvam again broke down and the Prime Minister hugged him, asking him to control his emotions.
