Snow Sunday night is expected to turn to rain by morning commute
Clouds will move in during the afternoon. Some areas will likely stay as just snow, mainly in north central Indiana. The city’s aviation website said more than 1,200 flights had been canceled at O’Hare and 175 at Midway as of late Sunday morning.
The season’s first widespread plowable snow is possible Sunday night.
All communites are looking at an 80 to 90 percent chance of snow Monday morning anda 30 to 50 percent chance of snow then mostly cloudy at night. Snow will turn to freezing rain over night, causing hazardous travel conditions into early Monday morning.
If the rain-snow line moved a bit slower than I am expecting, snow totals will end up at the higher end of the scale.
The good news is that with a predicted high of 44 degrees Monday, much of the snow and ice should melt before too long. Regardless of whether the roads are wet or snow-covered, they will be very slick, especially during commute times when there will be a large volume of traffic on the roads.
This storm system is moving in from the Ohio Valley.

Scattered snow showers arriving this afternoon will continue into the evening.
The snow could start as early as midday Sunday, the weather service said.
“Higher snow amounts of 2-4” are expected in the Poconos with less than a tenth of an inch of freezing rain, before changing to all rain Monday morning.
Tuesday partly sunny with a high near 37.
