Weather Authority Forecast: Early sunshine Monday with Arctic Air arriving this week
This cold air will move into the eastern United States from Wednesday into Thursday where last week’s winter storm system still has the northeast in its grip.
All the tight packing of the lines (isobars) between the low and high suggest strong southerly winds will be pushing warm air northward toward us.
Tuesday night: Snow showers tapering off early. Chances are, we’ll likely have rain or snow around Christmas Day.
Wednesday morning temperatures will start in the teens and there’s little warm-up. This will bring frigid, dangerously cold temperatures combined with low wind chills.
On Friday high temperatures will struggle to hit 20 degrees!
Thursday and Friday will be down right cold.
There is a chance for a messy mix Saturday.
Across the NYC/NJ Metro and Coast, snow mixes with and then changes to rain late tonight. If you have travel plans on Saturday, keep an eye on the forecast.
For those curious about our weather around Christmas, the long range models are showing temperatures should be near or slightly above normal with above normal chances for precipitation.
Tonight skies will turning out clear to partly cloudy with lows falling into the mid20s.
Tuesday: Mostly sunny. Late clouds. Our high only gets back into the upper 30s though and clouds will increase through the afternoon. Thankfully Friday won’t be as windy, but it will be every bit as cold. Wind chills will drop into the single digits by evening with blustery conditions. While very cold, it’s not quite record breaking. We are still on track for the possibility of some light sleet/freezing rain or freezing drizzle before dawn on Saturday.
