Trump delays announcement on business empire
No new deals will be done during my term (s) in office.
Since he won the race to the White House last month, Donald Trump has declined to get daily intelligence briefings because he’s “a smart person”, the president-elect said Sunday.
In an interview with Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace, Trump said he’s “very open-minded” on whether climate change is underway but has serious concerns about how President Obama’s efforts to cut carbon emissions have undercut America’s global competitiveness. “Nobody really knows. Look, I’m somebody who gets it, and nobody really knows”.
“Every president I – I know, and I’ve worked under nine presidents, every one has taken their intelligence daily brief because that sets the agenda for what you have to focus on as president of the United States”. It was to be his first news conference since winning the election November 8.
US President-elect Donald Trump said his businesses will carry out “no new deals” during his presidency in a series of tweets yesterday. Hence, legal documents are being crafted which take me completely out of business operations.
The Trump Organization presents a far more complex situation.
“Trump has been more raw, some would say more authentic, and certainly more controversial”, said University of Nebraska-Omaha Professor of Communications, Jeremy Lipschultz.
Neither Spicer nor Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks gave a new date for the news conference when asked.
He made clear he opposes the Republican Party’s long-held belief in free markets – and particularly trade deals that have allowed companies to outsource their production of goods. Trump suggested that his plans didn’t warrant that much scrutiny because, after all, “the president can’t have a conflict of interest”.
“I do know this”, he added.
“I like generals. I think generals are terrific, you know?”
Trump owns or has a position in more than 500 companies, according to a CNN analysis.
Trump also has the ability to make domestic policy in ways that could affect his businesses. One of the biggest revelations from that sit down was Trump’s comments on the USA intelligence.
Trump said his appointments aren’t about dismantling Obama’s legacy – but are meant to streamline businesses’ interactions with government, and particularly the EPA.
Since his victory last month, government ethics lawyers have pressured Trump to sell his assets and put the money in a blind trust overseen by an independent manager not related to him.
The big, potentially related story of the day, though, is the CIA’s assessment that Russian hackers worked to get Trump elected, Colbert said.
