Samsung Galaxy S8 will not include headphone jack
Remember when Samsung mocked the unreleased iPhone 7 for not having a headphone jack?
“Tolerances for battery expansion are built into a smartphone during design, and Instrumental notes Samsung used a super-aggressive manufacturing process to maximize capacity”.
It appears that Apple isn’t the only company that is attempting to revamp the design of its next flagship. Conversely, the iPhone 8 was rumored to feature an all-screen display with an embedded Touch ID sensor in the display well before Galaxy S8 rumors started to circulate. Reports earlier this year from Digital Music News indicated the company would move toward creating a proprietary USB-C headphone connector. Like the A3 (2017), the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) could also get an USB Type-C port.
Samsung has a lot to prove with this device. While making this move would keep Samsung in line with a trend, it would also give the Galaxy S8 one less way to stand out against its archrival iPhone. While Samsung confirmed the news about this new color, the South Korean company didn’t make it available for all regions of the world.
Samsung was recently sued over FinFET technology patent infringement, which prompted rumors that the Galaxy S8 might see a delayed release.
The upside is the potential for a thinner device with a larger battery, as well as stereo speakers; Samsung’s recent acquisition of Harman means a potential collaboration on said speakers.
Samsung could have solved the problem by using the smaller battery, according to the report, but this would have put it at a disadvantage to rival Apple. There are rumors that the Galaxy S8 would have a removable battery. There have also been talks that Samsung has changed its battery supplier. The upcoming smartphone is also expected to be compatible with virtual reality (VR) content out of the box. Samsung is tipped for a March release of the Galaxy S8, but the source claims that the launch could be delayed to April.
You were probably hoping the whole no headphone jack thing was just a 2016 fad, right?
