Colorado electors make final appeal to be free agents

This is just another example of people who can’t accept the results of an election and the local newspaper encouraging these people to prolong the fight. They hope to cut a deal with Republicans in other states and unite behind a consensus pick other than Donald Trump.

Behind the drive is a group calling itself Hamilton Electors, led by two Democratic electors from western states.

That’s because, with the exception of Texas elector Christopher Suprun, all the electors reportedly requesting these briefings so far are Democrats, and their votes are therefore already slated to go to Clinton. “I call on the leaders of Congress to delay the date of the vote for the Electoral College until an intelligence briefing has been given to each Elector”, Beyer added.

That doesn’t have to be Clinton. The electors sign, seal and certify packages of electoral votes and send them to federal and state officials. The electors are a post-election check, which guarantees that an irrational or risky result can be rectified.

The problem of the Electoral College is compounded by state laws that provide that electoral votes are awarded on a winner-take-all basis.

The “faithless elector” campaign is a futile effort.

The Electoral College has never benefited the republic. “It’s very much a long shot”. Like many of her fellow Democrats, she despises the Electoral College, which she considers antiquated and unfair and not representative of the will of the people. Three electors who still voted for Greeley had their ballots invalidated because their candidate, obviously, could not serve in office. The system, he said, “is sort of anti-democratic”. Unlike at the convention, the electors are spread across the country. Party chairman and incoming White House chief-of-staff Reince Priebus denies that the RNC was hacked, though how he’d know that is unclear.

By the way, even Trump said that the Electoral College is the worst. But the federal courts should use the pending cases to do this for the future and help ensure that never again is there the election of a president who lost the popular vote.

California law requires electors to vote for the statewide victor. In all states except Nebraska and ME, the candidate who wins the popular vote in a state – even by the narrowest margin – gets all of the electoral votes from that state. Clinton carried 20 states and the District of Columbia with 232 electors.

The list now holds signatures from 13 states, the majority of which come from electors in California, New York, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. Shouldn’t we leave it to the people to vote on whether to keep or abolish it?

This is the most basic and vital thing to recognize with regard to the Electoral College.
