Former Saints assistant Doug Marrone named Jaguars interim coach
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla.
The Minnesota native spent four seasons as defensive coordinator with the Seattle Seahawks (2009-12) and began his National Football League coaching career as a defensive quality control assistant with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2006.
Marrone has been with the Jaguars the past two seasons after leaving the Buffalo Bills.
Tom Coughlin has emerged as an early candidate for the Jaguars coaching vacancy, according to multiple reports. “Gus gave his staff and players literally everything he had” is the worst indictment of Bradley’s lack of coaching ability as you could write.
Bradley was dismissed by Jaguars owner Shad Khan after Sunday’s 21-20 loss against the Houston Texans, a game in which Jacksonville led 13-0.
Bradley, who was hired in Jacksonville in 2013 after a successful run as the Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator, went 14-47, failing to win more than five games in any season.
Bradley has lived atop my Coach Ineptitude Rankings all season and was the best bet for the first coach fired since about Week Six.
Coughlin interviewed with the Eagles and 49ers a year ago and appeared close to taking the job before the team made a decision to hire former quarterback and Chiefs offensive coordinator Doug Pederson.
Caldwell said Coughlin is someone he would be interested in talking to.
Apparently, the front office had finally seen enough. “I think there are no untouchables in this organization, including myself and any player, no matter how they got here”.
Bradley said he still considers Khan a friend and calls him “phenomenal”.
Pepper said the Jaguars may look for a head coach with a stronger offensive-minded background who is more of a disciplinarian than Bradley. Much of the blame here falls on general manager David Caldwell, but Bradley deserves his fair share as well.
The Jaguars held a nine-point lead in Houston in the fourth quarter but failed to hold on to the lead, sealing Bradley’s fate as they dropped to a 2-12 record for the year. Only one of those victories came in American soil, though, and the Jaguars have not won a game at EverBank Field since December 13, 2015. “I have no excuses”. I have no misgivings.
