Here’s when the next 3 Star Wars films will be released

It got me re-reading Star Wars comics-and if you loved Rogue One, you should read some of these too. (It doesn’t even have to be another Star War – collect these people again and I’ll be there, no questions asked.) But I think killing them all adds a real emotional punch to the film, which is all about the costs of war.

The franchise is full of these small opportunities for the Force to play a role in the story, from the Ben Kenobi sensing the death of Alderaan, to Rey flourishing after she leaves Jakku and finds a new family with Finn and the Resistance on the lush green planet of D’Qar.

Some of the cameos or the sly “nod and winks” to the audience were fun, however one really bothered me and felt needless, nearly like they had a checklist of things to hit for the movie to be worthwhile.

Lourd also humorously commented that though she’s “really into Star Wars these days” she wasn’t as a fan as a child. Although the screenplay credit belongs to Chris Weitz (“About a Boy”) and Tony Gilroy (the “Bourne” films), Knoll’s placement is emblematic of the film’s true raison d’etre: to give us X-wings dogfighting with TIE fighters, stage laser-gun fights, and bust out everything from an AT-AT to a lightsaber. ‘They’re not going to let us do that.’ So I was trying to figure out how this ends where that doesn’t happen.

Rogue One pulls off a tricky balance, combining the thrill of spending time in the Star Wars universe, with a different, more grounded take on the films’ overarching conflict that feels very appropriate to the world we live in now. It’s hard to discuss it as a Star Wars movie because the whole point of it is it’s removed from the larger mythology. “The Force Awakens”, last year’s “Star Wars” movie, was set decades after “Return of the Jedi” and based on the premise that the Rebellion has established a government and was fighting a still-powerful remnant of the Empire, the First Order. After watching Rogue One it becomes clear and it makes the overall story for “A New Hope” that much richer. The one thing that I didn’t see coming was Leia. And, as the Christmas holidays continue, the film’s box office take, both domestically and globally, grows larger every day. Other big movies for Disney this year include The Jungle Book, Marvel’s Doctor Strange, and another animated hit in November’s Moana.

Want more stuff like this? Meanwhile, Rogue One’s first teaser came in April of this year. Some fans, who have seen the movie, have voiced their concerns on social media that it was a bit distracting, but still are happy to see the old “Star Wars” villain who died at the end of “A New Hope”.
