Derek Carr Suffers Awful-Looking Injury Late During Game vs. Colts
Areas of interest in the Indianapolis Colts’ Christmas Eve meeting with the Raiders in Oakland’s Alameda Coliseum. Quarterback and MVP candidate Derek Carr was injured on a sack and taken off of the field. He was on the ground in a lot of pain and immediately yelled for the team’s trainers. The Colts trail 19-7 heading into the locker room at halftime.
Indy’s offense wasn’t exempt from the bad football, either, particularly when it came to turnovers. Coaching staff evaluated the injury and determined Carr’s fibula was broken and will require surgery.
Heading into play this weekend, the Chiefs sit a game back of the Raiders, but would win the division if the two teams finished tied based on the season-sweep of the Silver and Black. This led to Nelson becoming a top free agent signing for the Raiders in the off-season.
Despite having 11 players listed on their Friday injury report, the Colts (who will need some help reaching the playoffs this time around) are in relatively good shape for this weekend’s game.
Only one victor if it’s close – The Raiders stand at 11-3, and the Colts are at 7-7, yet it could have been so very different.
The Colts (7-7) have surrendered just two touchdowns over the past three weeks and given up an average of 12.7 points per game. Over the next 13 seasons, the Raiders were 63-145 (.303) and failed to post a winning record.
“It’s nice to go out there and just concentrate on the game at hand because nothing else really matters”, Carr said.
The Raiders’ quarterback would be helped off of the field, and Matt McGloin was put in the game for the Raiders. Considering they’ve had three 12-win showings in the past 31 seasons, it shouldn’t be assumed the Raiders will be headed back to this point in 2017. But the loss of yardage was the least of the Raiders concerns.
It didn’t, as the Raiders held on for a 33-25 win. Given that Luck has also been sacked a league-high 37 times, the Khalil Mack strip-sack comes into play. Cooper added a 34-yard catch on the drive and Richard capped it on when he caught a pass and barreled four yards into the end zone for a touchdown, which he celebrated with a leap into the Black Hole.
While Luck finished with 250 passing yards against the Vikings, the running game produced 161 yards and two touchdowns on 40 carries.
The end result? The Colts will miss the playoffs in consecutive seasons for the first time since 1997-98. That’s a rosier path than the Steelers drew last season when the Bengals had to use A.J. McCarron in the wild-card game.
Wideout T.Y. Hilton enters the weekend with 1,248 receiving yards, 50 behind Atlanta’s Julio Jones and 98 shy of setting a personal best (1,345 in ’14).
