In addition to Bring One for the Chipper, officials at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers collected Christmas trees Monday at Riverside Middle School in an effort to repurpose them into fish habitats at Thurmond Lake. “They don’t have to be transported as far to be put down and they’re used locally where they’re dropped off”.
“Often time’s people put their discarded trees on the curb for pickup after the holiday season”, says City of Minot Sanitation Superintendent, John Reynolds. Trees will be picked up at curbside. Composting is natural, easy, requires nearly no maintenance and can be done in any number of ways, according to a news release from the city. The cost is $3 per load for a maximum of five trees.
As for the trees grown by the Jacobses and their employees, some will be cut down as part of the Christmas tradition where the little ones seek out the best tree to take home.
