UFC 207: Amanda Nunes Says She’ll Retire Ronda Rousey Friday Night
What happens if she can’t get it though? After more than a year out of the Octagon, the former bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey, will attempt the first comeback of her career. The only she cares about right now is focusing on winning.
Having won the title in spectacular fashion, Holm lost it just as quickly as Miesha Tate caught her in a rear naked choke at the end of a bruising five-round battle in March to emerge with the belt.
Nunes, 28, is a heavy-hitting striker with a diverse skillset on the feet. Rousey’s hiding has made it that way, with her limited visibility cutting down on the number of potential viewers.
Rousey’s position as a narrow favourite comes in contrast to her recent history as heavy betting chalk.
It is a well-known fact that Ronda Rousey has borrowed her “Rowdy” nickname from professional wrestling legend, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper.
With UFC 207 just a couple days away, UFC President Dana White opened himself to media questions.
The major matches for UFC’s highly anticipated UFC 207 fight card, including up-to-date odds compiled by Odds Shark, are listed as follows. The shoulder programming on FOX and FS1 nearly exclusively slant in Rousey’s favor.
She posted a picture from last February when she beat Cat Zingano and she compared it with how she looks now for the Nunes bout. Will she be weighed down by lingering ill effects from the KO, making her tentative in the standup, too desperate for a takedown into her comfort zone? From the day that this fight was made, Ronda said “I’ll do press leading up to the event” so she went and did the talk shows and all that stuff.
“My dream has come true and I want to share this with everyone and help people be themselves”, she said. “They want to make her feel like she’s not the second”. So I don’t see it as being disrespectful at all.
Nunes doesn’t buy into it. “My dream was to become champion and now I am the champion so I train hard and fight hard, but this is all a dream to me!”
Rather than worrying or even thinking about her gas tank, Nunes trusted her power and chased the finish, applying tremendous pressure to the rocked champion.
Usually officials would punish athletes for disregarding their media duties but White has given her the freedom to avoid them after already giving so much towards the franchise. Rousey has been on Nunes’ radar for as long as she can remember, and she has always maintained a confidence the matchup would eventually come to fruition.
The UFC chief stated that the challenger and former champion is back to her best and is in “great spirits” ahead of her fight. However, that doesn’t change anything in her mind. “I think she’s gonna play rough and play her style and use the strengths she’s been given and is used to”. This is what she wanted and we gave it to her.
The last time UFC experimented with a Friday night pay-per-view before New Year’s Eve, it tanked.
Nunes is looking at the media-free preparation as an upside to her being able to concentrate on the fight and losing weight.
One shot for the champion to shock the world.
