Apple may manufacture iPhones at Bengaluru facility in 2017
India provides various incentives to promote manufacturing under the Make in India campaign. “Information on production of the latest models and global sales suggests cuts in both the 7 and 7 Plus lines in the coming quarter”.
But that is just one of the condition that Apple has sought from the Indian government while expressing their desire to start manufacturing within India. We can’t manufacture a device here because we don’t have the infrastructure or ecosystem to do so, yet.
“Ease of doing business and a stable fiscal regime which the GST will bring to the forefront are likely to make India an overall attractive place for manufacturing”.
With Apple gearing up to start iPhone manufacturing in Bengaluru towards early 2017, a panel comprising of senior officials could probably meet to discuss the possibilities of incentives. Lens Technology has 70,000 workers of whom all are below 45 in age, while most labor in the U.S. is of over 45 years old, the company said. According to Foxconn’s Jia-peng, the Zhengzhou factory has some production lines already at the second automation phase and on track to become fully automated in a few years’ time. Post the dip, the company has started looking beyond its stagnating United States and other markets towards emerging markets like India. According to the data furbished by Hong Kong-based Counterpoint Technology Market Research, Apple sold 2.5 million iPhones in India from October 2015 to September 2016, a rise of more than 50 pc over the year-ago period.
The company plans to fight these charges in Korea’s highest court, calling the whole situation “unprecedented and insupportable”.
Making products such as iPhones locally will allow Apple to open its own stores in India, helping it to build its brand in a country where the company has a less than 5 per cent slice of a booming smartphone market. This would eventually give a push to building components here. The decision will help to cut down the cost of its otherwise highly priced phones.
The organization has also sought tax incentives that are being inspected by the finance ministry. And that’s before you consider that the cost of labor is lower and numerous components being assembled are also made in Asia. Now, it has come to light that Foxconn is using the same facility to assemble Xiaomi and OnePlus devices, but there is no sign of iPhone manufacturing yet. The sources said, “Bangalore is being looked at seriously”.
