Derrius Guice trucks Louisville kicker into next year
The Tigers running back 137 yards and a touchdown, as of this writing, including a 70-yard chug to the house.
The LSU pass rush overwhelmed a Louisville offensive line that did a progressively poorer job of protecting Jackson throughout the season.
“I could not be prouder of this team and how we finished it”, Orgeron said.
Jackson was sacked eight times and limited to 153 yards passing (10-for-27) and 33 yards rushing as the Cards finished the season with three straight losses. “LSU can tell a prospective recruit, we are going to play great defense”. LSU defensive lineman Arden Key sacked Jackson in the end zone for a safety to make the score 16-3.
The lithe 6-foot-3, 203-pound Jackson, who terrorized defenses to the tune of 4,928 total yards of offense and 51 TDs, spent most of the day looking like he couldn’t find the exit to escape the House of Tiger Terror.
The Louisville Cardinals kicker attempted to staunch a return by LSU’s Derrius Guice in the fourth quarter and paid for it with a heavy lick to the chops from the Tigers running back. And it seemed it saved this effort for a bowl game instead of the regular season. Considering that the Cardinals racked up 568 yards against Clemson – which ranked eighth nationally in total defense – it looked like the LSU D would have its hands full in this contest. His absence is mitigated by sophomore running back Derrius Guice, who was superb as an injury replacement and complement to Fournette this season. Malachi Dupre set a season high for catches and a career high for yards in just the first half. Two plays later, King punted 50 yards to Tre’ White, who returned 12 yards to the LSU 48.
LSU quarterback Danny Etling threw for 217 yards and two touchdowns as the Tigers moved the ball with balance all game. He wasn’t at his best in the final two games – Houston sacked him 11 times, and he committed four turnovers against Kentucky – but still posted an easy Heisman victory.
Jackson dodged and darted, and freshman end Rashard Lawrence nailed him for 7-yard sack. And the margin has to be the most deceptive 20-point win by any team this year because the Tigers dominated in every facet from start to finish.
Following an interception on a pass Etling intended on throwing away, Louisville managed to tack on a 47-yard field goal as time expired for the half.
The Cards led in the first quarter, but LSU scored on its first play of the second quarter. Through three quarters, he had 21 net yards rushing on 22 carries and was 5-of-17 passing for 97 yards.
