Team USA And Bob Motzko Take Gold
Terry’s tally was the only goal scored in the shootout, and it lifted the U.S.to the gold-medal title.
The United States rebounded from deficits of 2-0, and 4-2 in the win.
Put this one up there with John Carlson’s overtime goal in the 2007 World Junior Hockey Championship. “Every time I throw on anything USA I’ll always remember this game”. This back-and-forth tilt would head to overtime.
“They’re a good team for sure but we’re going to be ready”, Gauthier told TSN.
A team filled with NCAA players didn’t lose a game the whole tournament, winning seven straight, the last two in a shootout. Still, it was he that propelled the Americans past the heavily-favored hosts in the 5-4 shootout victory. Their one loss came against the United States when they dropped a 3-1 decision in Toronto.
The Canadians capitalized on the power play in the third period when Nicolas Roy sent a wrister past Parsons to regain the lead.
Anderson, a native of Roseville, Minn., who is the Bulldogs’ second-leading scorer with six goals and 11 assists, finished the tournament with two assists.
But that was only the opening act of the period. Charlie McAvoy chipped in with a goal and an assist.
Less then three minutes after that, the reset button was hit once again.
Not to take away anything from Carter Hart, who made 31 saves on the night, and was a big reason they had the chance to play for gold in the first place. If there is one thing Americans love doing, it is watching the United States of America beat another country in a sport and rubbing it in their damn faces.
The Canadians took another two-goal lead at 4:05.
The gold medal game of the 2017 World Junior Championship not only lived up to that reputation, but it just added another prime example for the hockey history books.
Jeremy Lauzon made it 2-0 as he corralled a puck that was batted out of the air and ripped it past US goalie and London Knight, Tyler Parsons. With his well-rounded defensive tools and sharp playmaking abilities, McAvoy has all the makings of a top-pairing defenseman at the National Hockey League level.
Parsons made 44 saves in regulation and overtime, and then four more in the five-round shootout.
Russian Federation and Sweden will play for the bronze.
McAvoy will now go back and play for Boston University. Adam Fox’s shot from the point grazed Kieffer Bellows and found its way to the goal at 9:30 to equalize the contest. It’s also the second time that they’ve gone undefeated at the tournament, finishing with a flawless 7-0 record this year.
The tide began to turn midway through the second period as Canada increased the tempo and created a number of scoring chances.
