Duke’s Grayson Allen returns after one-game suspension
Allen was the first player shown.
Krzyzewski walked slowly and tried to sit comfortably with his discomfort during the game.
Alternately, the ACC could have stepped in and said, “Look, this isn’t what we stand for and one game isn’t enough”. He said it’s been bothering him for roughly a month. You try to beat it and you can’t beat it. “I’ll watch film tonight for (Saturday’s opponent) BC and try to get our game plan going”, he admitted.
Krzyzewski insisted that a one-game suspension is plenty, and that there’s more to his handling of Allen than missing game time. He began the night facilitating.
The Blue Devils will roll out a starting lineup that many were expecting to see at the outset of the season Wednesday with a mix of star freshmen and talented veterans, including Grayson Allen (suspension).
With his Blue Devils house in order, Krzyzewski is ready to go under the knife.
He eventually found his points too. That step back from the spotlight must have been what he needed to recharge himself and address what he needed to do to convince his coach to give him a second chance.
And yet – after a one-game break – Allen is still not out.
“It hurt to be out watching them play and knowing that if I did the right things, I know I’d be out there”, Allen said. Those questions are now reserved for Krzyzewski, who will be unable to answer them until he gets back (or the postgame press conference against Georgia Tech – where he will also try to put the issue to bed).
Prior to the Virginia Tech loss, Kennard called the Duke basketball team selfish. The Blue Devils finished with 23 turnovers. Currently, the Blue Devils are No. 34 in scoring defense.
The next day, Krzyzewski said he would suspend the preseason AP All-American guard and his team’s second-leading scorer “until I feel good about the entire situation where he is at”. “We’ve hit adversity pretty much all year with injuries and guys out and just all this stuff, but we’ve adjusted to certain things and now we have to adjust to this”.
Draft UPDATES: Auburn defensive end Carl Lawson, a fourth-year junior, is forgoing his final season. “It is a lot of fun to play that way”.
“He just has to be out there”, Krzyzewski said of Giles, who has played in three games. He had season-highs of 10 points and 12 rebounds. I know there are many, many worse things in the world than tripping up somebody on a basketball court, but c’mon.
In Krzyzewski’s absence, associate head coach Jeff Capel will slide down one chair on the bench and assume the head coaching duties.
“The biggest thing for me.is how exhausted you get because of pain”, Krzyzewski said.
