Seattle Seahawks & Detroit Lions Set for NBC’s NFL WILD CARD GAME, Today
The Lions have lost them all. This is their first playoff meeting.
Seattle only went 3-3 over its last six games, and struggled to beat San Francisco in the finale 25-23. Some of their offensive issues have come up recently with QB Matthew Stafford’s finger injury. Detroit comes in after losing to Green Bay and ceding the NFC North title.
Offensively, the Seahawks’ task will be the same it’s been all season: Get the line to play well enough, for long enough, to establish even a semblance of consistency in the running game and pass protection. So, it’ll be the Seahawks who will enter the game as the favorites.
As we prepare for kickoff, here’s how our staff sees things shaping up tonight.
The biggest problem is that none of that magic happened against playoff teams.
The Lions use a lot of stunts and twists up front with their defensive line. Unfortunately for Lions fans, their pass rush is nothing to write home about, so they will be unable to take advantage of the Seahawks’ bad offensive line.
Wilson only ran the ball 72 times for 259 yards, which are both career lows by a wide margin. Michael Bennett, Jimmy Graham, and Richard Sherman sat out practices earlier in the week but were full participants on Friday (Jan. 6). WR Golden Tate is the clear number one receiver with 91 catches for 1,077 yards and 4 touchdowns. Their best pass rusher – Ziggy Ansah was hampered by injuries all season and finished with two sacks. WHY THE LIONS WILL COVER Jeremy Reisman is the managing editor of Pride of Detroit.
Cliff Avril, a former Lion, leads the Seahawks in sacks. The 49ers were able to leak an RB out of the backfield uncovered and hit a couple decent-gainers on safe plays.
C Travis Swanson (concussion) is out. That triumphant win sent them to the NFC Championship Game where they eventually lost to the Washington Redskins.
It’s against Seattle, a playoff tested opponent with its own unique home-field advantage that is perhaps the best in the league. The king of the fourth-quarter comeback this season, the magic has worn off in recent weeks. This season, he threw for 4,327 yards, his franchise-record sixth consecutive 4,000-yard season.
Houston (9-7) is favored by three at home. He had 110 scrimmage yards (69 rushing) in Week 17, his first game with 100.
Terrell’s first time in the playoffs is the most potentially damaging for Seattle’s quest for a third Super Bowl in four years.
Under is 19-7 in Lions last 26 road games. He did it for most of the second half of previous year, when he threw 24 touchdown passes and one interception in his final seven regular-season games.
So what can Carroll and the Seahawks do to snap their six-game stretch of alternating wins and losses?
The latest from the NFL’s wild-card Saturday. Since 2015, including playoffs, he is tied for second in the National Football League with 22 TD catches.
They wanted the NFC’s second seed and the benefits of a bye, more important after 16 games than at any point during the regular season.
