More rain late afternoon… wintry mix possible tonight
Some light showers will remain on and off through the morning. Rainfall amounts were light with most locations receiving less than a quarter of an inch of rain. South wind 6 to 14 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 20 miles per hour.
The cold front associated with a strong low-pressure system will take aim at the mountains tonight and into Wednesday morning. Still windy today with slightly cooler temperatures…but still mild…clouds in control with a few spotty showers…limited wet. Gusty northwest winds will develop late in the day. Wednesday night: A 20 percent chance of snow showers before 10 p.m. However, this early in the game, anyone who will be traveling Friday night or Saturday should monitor the forecast closely.
Here are some of the questions we have now.
The precipitation is expected to change over to rain during the afternoon or evening.
Wednesday: Rain ends in the morning, then becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon.
Sunday.Rain or freezing rain likely. Areas of freezing rain possible. Mixed precipitation, including sleet, is expected overnight. It will take most of the afternoon before inland spots climb above freezing.
Tonight: Cloudy, with a low around 52. A warm layer of air melts the snow that falls above the surface, and the rain refreezes as it hits the cold surface. In Amarillo, and several locations, we could see record highs. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 57.
Even as we start the following work week, the headline will be the warm temperatures.
The cold air is going to be slowly replaced by warmer air today. Be aware that icing conditions can also lead to power outages as well.
So what should you do?
