Bring on the Steelers: Pittsburgh to play Pats for AFC title
The decision to move the Chiefs’ AFC Divisional playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers to a night kickoff to avoid an expected ice storm resulted in a ratings victor for NBC.
The closest the Pittsburgh Steelers got to scoring a touchdown was five yards away from the end zone, and the one time they got there they didn’t give it to Le’Veon Bell.
In between, Davis had left the game briefly with an injury. “It really doesn’t matter now that we’re sitting here”.
“We don’t let that be a distraction”, Reid. said.
Davis and the Steelers did so. He hasn’t been to New England since the 2014 playoffs when Deflategate started. The quarterback already has three interceptions in the playoffs, so just imagine how deadly this team can be if he cleans up in the turnover department. I feel like I stepped up.
Then again, Harrison nearly certainly would not have gotten to Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith, who was already delivering a soft pass to tight end Demetrius Harris in the end zone.
The circumstances will add to the sting for the Chiefs, but it certainly looked like a legitimate call on Fisher. I’ve been there. A lot of us has been there. The only thing I can think of is that while he is waiting for an opening to appear, someone knifes through the O-line and tackles him.
“That wasn’t a hold on my guy Eric Fisher”, Kelce said. Then Smith went to Conley again on third-and-9 from the Steelers 25. But they needed their aged veteran to save the day Sunday. “That’s what we’ve got to do”. Roethlisberger later told reporters that it is always hard to play the Patriots. Those guys did a great job.
The offensive line was as appreciative of Bell as Bell was of the offensive line.
“Bummed for him”, Smith said. “This ain’t gonna be fun”, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger could be heard saying.
Pittsburgh earned the trip to this game with a win over the Dolphins 30-12 in the divisional round and a tight 18-16 victory over the Chiefs this past weekend. Of course, Fitzgerald did it all during the 2008-season playoffs, culminating in a Super Bowl loss to the Steelers. I would like to think it set the tone. “I thought it was going to happen every single year”. “You’ve got to mature through the year”. You go through so many different adversities.
Perhaps more important, his teammates believe in him, so much so they voted him the team’s MVP for this season.
Gilbert: “It’s not revenge, it’s not redemption at all”. New England did a good job at limiting Texans tailback Lamar Miller on the ground in the divisional round, but Bell is on a whole other level as both a running back and a receiving option. “He’s a special player, not just on kickoff returns”. “It’s a sad position to be in with the team that we had and considering this team won’t be the same next year”.
But where the Steelers felt they set a tone for what they needed to do against Hill, maybe the most risky all-purpose threat in the National Football League, was on the kickoff after the second of Chris Boswell’s six field goals. They’re to be given credit for that. But it was more than that. For some reason, Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston was covering Brown on the play, and Roethlisberger took advantage.
“They’re not going to make many mistakes”, said McDaniels.
