Rep. Alma Adams to boycott Trump inauguration
“He conveniently doesn’t remember, how do you forget if you go to an inauguration, I can tell you, when I was at the inauguration, you don’t forget something like that”, Trump said.
Mr. Lewis said in a recent interview with NBC he doesn’t see Mr. Trump as a legitimate president because of Russian meddling in the election.
Rep. John Lewis, a longtime civil rights activist, helped organize the famous march over the Edmund Pettus bridge in Selma and was beaten while taking part in the long-ago protest.
A Pulitzer-winning columnist says the public dispute between President-elect Donald Trump and civil rights icon John Lewis poses a larger question to Democrats about how they should treat Republicans after the inauguration.
On the wall, Trump says “Mexico in some form is going to reimburse us for that wall”. Obviously, one of the most historic ceremonies we hold dear is the inauguration of our President.
“For me, the personal decision not to attend the inauguration is quite simple: do I stand with Donald Trump, or do I stand with John Lewis?”. And yet even as you and I speak, there are more than five dozen Democrats that are going to boycott the inauguration of the incoming president.
The president-elect retaliated Saturday morning, tweeting that the congressman is “all talk, talk, talk” and “should spend more time on fixing and helping his district.”
Trump responded on Twitter, calling Lewis “all talk” and “no action”. While we understand and sympathize with their reasoning, we wish they had not chosen this vehicle to demonstrate their dissatisfaction or even disgust with Trump. On Tuesday, a spokesperson said Price had talked extensively with his family, N.C. constituents and other Democrats in the U.S. House before deciding to attend.
“Rep. Lewis also missed one other inauguration, the first inauguration of President George W. Bush”, said the statement from Lewis’ communications director, Brenda Jones.
