BJP raking up Hindu terror issue to polarise country: Congress
“Had it done so, its flip-flop on terrorism would not have been there”, Prasad said, citing use of terms “saffron terror” and “Hindu terrorism” by former home minister, besides Gandhi’s reported assertions.
“Responding to a US ambassador’s query about LeT’s activity in the region and immediate threat to India, Rahul Gandhi had said there was evidence of some support for the group among certain elements in India’s indigenous Muslim community. We would like to go into the genesis of the whole problem since the BJP came to power to know what concrete steps they have taken to see that terrorism ends”, he said.
He said former Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde in the UPA regime had questioned Hindu terror in a very different context but Singh’s statement was a completely diversionary argument.
“Congress has not learnt the right lessons”.
The report was based on documents released by Wikileaks. “I think Rajnath Singh is completely distorting the statement”, he said.
Prasad, who addressed reporters at the party headquarters, raked up the “scams during the UPA” government.
The BJP leader said Congress has displayed that it has not only mastered the art of corruption but also lacked national character as it was out to politicize the attack on country even as all the countrymen stood united against the Pak sponsored “Fidayeens” who wanted to disturb the peace and communal harmony in the border state of Punjab.
The BJP, however, showed no signs of slowing down.
“The comment of the then home minister is being quoted out of context. It is a deliberate attempt for various reasons to divide the country to seeking debate on two religions and thus divert the people’s attention from its failure to effectively counter the threat of terrorism”, said senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad at a Press conference at the AICC headquarters here.
Rajnath Singh accused Congress of coining the term “Hindu terrorism”.
The term “Hindu terror” was used by former Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde in his address to a Congress party convention in Jaipur in January 2013.
BJP today flaunted its association with RSS, asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and many other ministers are RSS workers, a day after Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi charged the Hindutva organisation with promoting mediocrity. The moment BJP became the part of the coalition government in J&K, polarisation in a big way has hit J&K also.
