Green card holders are permitted to board global flights to the U.S., although they will be subjected to additional screening upon their arrival.
There had been some debate whether green card holders should be even allowed to board worldwide flights.
The DHS will then provide America’s foreign partners and allies 60 days to cooperate with US national security requirements.
The DHS said on Sunday night that green card holders would be allowed to board USA -bound flights, but would be subjected to additional scrutiny upon arrival.
That compares with the more than 600,000 people worldwide who came to the Unites States in fiscal year 2016 under immigrant visas, and the almost 10.9 million worldwide who came under non-immigrant visas in 2015, the lastest year for which the U.S. State Department has published figures.
“I just don’t think he (Trump) has any capacity to understand humanity and what his role is on governing”, she said. The officials were caught off guard by some of the specifics and raised questions about how to handle the new banned passengers on US-bound planes.
Kelly said other countries could be added to the list if it is determined they “could tighten up their procedures” to ensure more secure vetting.
Administration officials also defended the process Saturday.
