“This Is Not A Muslim Ban”, Trump Clarifies
There’s no other evidence, besides Giuliani’s word, that Trump made that call.
What immigration restrictions are under consideration?
The White House today tried to tamp down concerns about President Donald Trump’s sweeping immigration order in the face of widespread protests, as some Republicans in Congress urged him to proceed with caution in the face of legal pushback.
In 2011, Obama’s state department stopped processing Iraqi refugee requests for six months, though it didn’t disclose the policy like Trump did, ABC reported in 2013. And it ignores the threat from citizens in the United States, Europe and other friendly locations who are radicalized at home. It plays into the narrative of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria or Al-Qaeda.
They have not, however, taken any steps to get the order changed.
There have been no people accepted to the USA as a refugee that have been implicated in a major fatal terrorist attack since the Refugee Act of 1980 put systematic procedures in place for accepting refugees, according to an analysis of terrorism immigration risks by the Cato Institute.
What’s the reaction to his plan?
Trump said the first full day of the ban was going smoothly, but insisted, “It’s not a Muslim ban”.
Some legal residents were in mid-flight when Trump signed his executive order Friday – and were detained at airports upon arrival back in the States. They were the best of us. Mitch McConnell said the ban was “completely and totally inconsistent with American values”. “This is not about religion – this is about terror and keeping our country safe”, Trump said in the statement.
Trump went on to add, “We only want to admit those into our country who will support our country and love deeply our people”. According to David French of National Review magazine, 77 percent of Syrian refugees admitted were Muslim, while only 0.68 percent were Christian or Yazidi, a startling statistic when one considers that in 2015 Christians made up nearly 10 percent of Syria’s population.
As part of its reaction to the new administration’s approach on immigration, Britain will make so-called “representations” to the USA government to protect the rights of British citizens looking to enter the Unites States, the statement added.
Are other types of visas available? .
The order also singled out Syrians for the most aggressive ban, indefinitely blocking entry for anyone from that country, including those fleeing civil war. Those countries are Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen.
The issue is a major domestic political flashpoint. Donnelly’s order only forbade removing those affected by Trump’s order.
“The unlawful employment of aliens has had a devastating impact on the wages and jobs of American workers, especially low-skilled, teenage, and African American and Hispanic workers”, the draft order says.
CAIR said more than 20 plaintiffs have joined the suit, the details of which will be announced Monday.
He said there are two related questions – whether the president has statutory authority and whether he has constitutional authority – and that Trump is wrong on both counts.
Sen. Jeff Flake (Ariz.) has a long history of being pro-immigration in general and has always shown a principled commitment to aiding those displaced by war, especially wars waged by the United States.
This suggests Trump has a lot of leeway. The provision is unequivocal in stating that no person may “be discriminated against in the issuance of an immigrant visa because of the person’s race, sex, nationality, place of birth, or place of residence”.
“Priebus also attempted to clarify the order, saying it doesn’t affect green card holders”.
What will be some effects of these actions? .
A Cato Institute study found that Americans are 253 times more likely to die in a regular homicide than dying in a terrorist attack committed by a foreigner in the US.
“The Middle East is a region of extraordinary ethnic and religious diversity”, said Chris Boian, the senior communications officer of the U.N. Refugee Agency, UNHCR.
“So maybe they’ve given up their housing”, Nezer said. “His power to restrict visa issuances and entry of aliens to the United States is nearly as wide”.
Is there precedent for this? .
The last time the USA refugee programme was frozen was a three-month period after the 11 September attacks nearly 16 years ago. Its alleged anti-Muslim thrust “is not clear to me”, said Eugene Volokh, a professor at UCLA School of Law.
