Jennings’ charges dismissed; back in QB race
Miles placed the three players on an indefinite suspension in June after they were arrested on charges of unauthorized entry into an inhabited dwelling.
“This decision is based upon the request of the victim that no charges be filed and inconsistent and contradictory statement provided”, Moore wrote in a statement released to the media.
“Although the conduct of these students in this situation is unacceptable, it is not one, based on the facts, that warrants prosecution, although their actions could have subjected them to such”, Moore said, via The Advocate.
On June 14, Jennings, Thomas and Bain entered an apartment with the intention of retrieving items that were allegedly stolen from Jennings on June 10.
As reported by the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Moore also indicated the decision to drop the charges was related to LSU and the football team’s potential to punish the players.
Jennings played in all 13 games last season for LSU, completing 48.9 percent of this throws for 1,611 yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Jennings started all but one game at quarterback for LSU last season but was inaccurate (49 percent completion rate) and ineffective.
“Understand that LSU football will impose whatever type of discipline that they believe is appropriate”, said District Attorney Hillar Moore. Miles has been known to reinstate suspended players with legal issues after their cases reach resolution; he reinstated running back Jeremy Hill, now of the Cincinnati Bengals, back in 2013 on the same day the star rusher was given extended probation rather than jail time on a battery charge.
The alleged victim told police that Jennings’ group had left the apartment with a PlayStation 4 and three blue boxes containing pairs of Air Jordans.
