Latest Staten Island forecast increases snow prediction for Thursday
Near record high temperatures Wednesday will quickly give way to frigid air moving in overnight, leading to the season’s second snowstorm Thursday. Heavy snow, poor visibility and dropping temperatures will make travel unsafe.
Thursday morning’s commute may be snow covered, with parts of DE seeing up to 6 inches of snow, according to the latest forecast by The National Weather Service. But forecast confidence at this point is below average, and heavier amounts of snow – from 5 to 7 inches – remain a definite possibility.
Some places could see upwards of 15 inches. Elsewhere, rain will change over to snow from northwest to southeast into early Thursday morning. Thursday, six-to-ten inches of snow.
The snow will continue to expand across New England during the day, falling heavily at times. “North to northwest winds will increase late tonight and Thursday with gusts in the 30-35 miles per hour range”.
The record high temperature for Central Park on February 8th is 61 degrees, as the monthly average high is around 40 degrees for the second month of the year.
Temperatures will drop by Wednesday night to make way for the snow.
Saturday: Cloudy, with a high near 42. Low around 28. Wind chill values between 20 and 25.
Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 64.
Tuesday: Periods of rain, mainly before 2pm. There may be a bit less than 3 inches in the Monadnock Region, and perhaps a bit more than 6 inches in the eastern part of the Lakes Region and southern part of the Mt. Washington Valley.
Friday: Mostly sunny, lighter wind, chilly.
The region received just under two-and-a-half inches of rain Friday through Sunday, the weather service said.
Sunday Night: A chance of rain and snow. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
Wednesday: Early showers, then clouds with a few breaks of sunshine. The wind will come from the west gusting from 40 to 60 km/h, then eventually switch to a northwest wind at 20 km/h in the afternoon. Still, forecasters expect the swing downward to make for a snowy state by the end of Thursday.
